HELP! my female dalmation mollie is going to have babies. She has been pregnant 3 times before but each time she has had her babies I have been gone! I don't want to put her in another tank because I don't have one and I don't want to get a net to put her and her babies in.
I have 2 female mollies, 1 blue gourami, and 2 mickey mouse platys.
I have plants and rocks in my tank. oh and it's a 29 gal. tank too. I want to keep the fry but I think the fish are eating them before I can get to them! What do I do?

29 gal.

2 female mollies
2 mickey mouse platys
1 blue gourami

6 gal.

2 male guppies
1 african dwarf frog

I also have 2 male bettas in seperate 1.5 gallon tanks

unfortunately I think you answered your own question. The only sure way to keep them alive is a separate tank or a net breeder. You may get lucky and have a few hide well, but most will become lunch. You could try to add more dense plants to give them better hiding spots, but thats really about it

Thanks. I think that I will get some more dense plants. Both of my mollies are pregnant. I had 1 gold mollie die a few months ago while having her babies. I don;t want that to happen to my other mollies. I am attached to them but I guess I will live. I have even named them!

try java moss. how come you dont want a net?

I don't know why I don't want a net but maybe I'll think about it.

The gouramie is the problem. I've successfully raised in tank young with platies and mollies. The only way to do it is a lot of plant cover. Busy plants like cobamba, a large group of anacharis, and especially hornwort. Baby fish stay near the top, thats how they get eaten. Floating plants are a must. Try riccia, guppy grass, water sprite, anacharis, hornwort. Make sure your babies don't get sucked into the filter. Power filters are baby killers. Put a piece of foam in the intake to prevent babies being sucked up.

ok. THanks for letting me know. Maybe I should just let the fish have their babies and let the other fish have a feast! I don't know what I'll do yet.
