How much have you seen java moss and java ferns go for ? I went a fish store after work and I saw a floating ball of javamoss for 8 bucks and I was wondering if this was cheap.
 
I don't use moss, but that price sounds ridiculously high for Java Fern, to me.
I can buy nice plants at my LFS for a couple of bucks.

If you have a local aquarium club there's probably someone giving it away from time to time. One of our local vendors offers it free to anyone who buys a fish, or has bought a fish. He has it in all his tanks and just needs to get rid of bunches as it gets overgrown.
 
Well that seems high to me - in the UK a mother plant of java fern is £8 ($14), small plant around £3 ($5) and java moss is £2 ($3) per bag.

go with Happy's advice on the club scene or if not maybe a mail order supplier such as JAVA
