I have been going around and around for like 2 weeks w/ the Home Depot in Ann Arbor MI trying to get some sand via stock transfer and today they told me they simply cannot get it. Does anyone know of any stores in this area that has been succesful at getting some, or maybe someone that has some to sell? This is just so frustrating, it is what I am waiting on to set up my 55. I really appreciate any help. Also can some of you guys just give me some feedback on your experiences getting SD this wayI mean is it only me that can't get it?
It's definitely not just you. I've never seen Southdown sand in person either - no one sells it on the left coast :(
If you haven't already, call around to local supply houses and see if they sell aragonite sand. Not long after I set my tank up using silica sand, I found a place within 20 miles that sells pure aragonite sand.
No problems with the silica sand, BTW. It's working just fine.

Thanks for the reply. I have a list of several Home Depots within reasonable distance, if all of them are unable to help then there is The Reef Shop in Kalamazoo MI that sells it for $10 a bag. My inlaws live in that area so I could kill two birds with one stone there.

Southdown is packaged in Easton, PA which is 5 miles from the NJ border. I can only assume they don't have a broad distribution area since every Home Depot in my area has it, yet other states never see it.
that stinks:(

I did a quick search on www.reefcentral.com for Southdown and i found 1 guy selling some 50lb bags. Here is the link: Southdown (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161198&highlight=southdown+and+michigan)
The ad was posted on the 8th of March. I would check reefcentral often. I found some Southdown in Missouri by searching the site a few months back. Good luck!
