:( When I fed our fishies this morning I found our chinese butterfly loach "Kwei Chow" had passed on. I hadn't noticed any signs of illness, or injury. Everybody else looks just fine. Tank's a little overstocked, but plenty of aeration and weekly 25% water changes seem to have been keeping everyone healthy til we can upgrade to a larger tank.

Anyway, we're going to miss this gentle little stealth bomber shaped fellow.

How old is he? Did you check your water?

I'd had him for about 5 months, don't know how long he'd been at lfs so I can't attest to true age. Haven't had a chance to check water yet since it was just a few minutes before I had to leave for work. But, everybody else in the tank seems normal. Since butterfly loaches spend a great deal of time just stuck to the glass instead of swimming around it's tough to tell if they're having problems.

dosen't this type of loach like cooler water temps? and Lots of airation? Maybe your tank was too hot?

This is a 10 gal tank that usually stays around room temp or a couple degrees above that due to the lighting. One airstone plus one "treasure chest" aerating ornament on a pump that can handle three such items. These produce what I think is a pretty fair amount of aeration for a 10 gal. Also, these items are both located close to the back glass (the stone especially) and Kwei Chow (as well as his predecessor Hop Sing) liked to hang out on the back glass and let the bubbles rush over him.
