I have 3 cans of the stuff, what does it do (other than having to read the label, what does it REALLY do?)????????????????

My answer to this question would be, who cares. Chemicles are never good for your tank.
In very non-technical terms it does, thru chemical compounds and charcoal, what a functioning colony of nitrifying bacteria and frequent water changes do. It absorbs dissolved chemical compounds from the water column and holds them until you dispose of the bag.
Water changes and good tank care are free. This stuff is expensive!
Oh! And my thoughts on the NO CHEMICALS rant that I see surface occasionally.
I add the following Chemicals to my tank weekly…
CO2
KNO3
KH2PO4
Fe
Mg
Ca
A few others.
My plants are gorgeous, my water is crystal clear, my fish and critters are healthy, and not one speck of algae (well maybe one).
I am a happy camper!

So was the Chemi Clean. I complained to the company so much that they sent me a box of Chemi products.

Just to clarify I wasn't referring to the use of fertilizers or nutrients for plant life that are beneficial. Was referring to any other chemicle designed to alter the state of the water, etc.

You mean like CO2? CO2 alters the state of the water....
Lol.
I still would rather nourish and depend on the natural bio system in the tank than on "silver bullets" in a can.

I think a better statement is chemical filtration is not neccessary in a well maintained FW tank.
Lol !!!!
NO CHEMICALS
I bet we could we could really run this thread into several pages with our list of NO CHEMICALS, but that one would be OK.
