just curious

they do manage to get some food then they eventually give up and return to their usual bottom feeding ways
i know its nothing serious, just wanted to know if they do this often

thanx ppl

It is normal. He is just going to where the food is.

Yeah, that's pretty normal. If you wanna get them back on the bottom, try some sinking shrimp pellets, or weight down a raw shrimp and let them tear at that for an hour or three. Mine did that at first, but now that they know enough food is going to drift down to them, they all line up at feeding time on a piece of wood, and dart out of their gallery when the rain of particles and pellets reach them. In the 10 months I've had them, they've put on some good weight, and most have grown half an inch or more. I got fat clowns!

Our loaches go to the surface to feed just cause they are too impatient to wait for the food to reach them. They also like to line up against the walls of the tank where the return lines are because they know the food will get blown down to them....lazy loaches!!! ;)
