Here's my question. I have a filter cartridge that has the pad, carbon all in one. This cartridge has been in my tank for about 3 months. All the info I have read here and elsewhere says that the carbon is useless after 2-4 weeks because it is "full". My question is if this is the case do I really need to remove it from my tank before medicating?

You can leave it in,because it wont absorb the medication.Like you said it is "full" and can't absorb anything else.Also spent carbon is good for harboring benificial bacteria.
Agreed!! You should be more than fine dosing medication. However, I would get another cartridge (if that is the only way to get activated carbon in your filtration) to remove the medication once you are complete.
This is true - more surface area for bacteria than with nothing else. Not a bad idea imo.
