What do people think of these inserts? Overkill? Useful? How about when used in planted tanks?

I'd be interested in learned opinions.

Well I don't know how common they are in freshwater, but for marine tanks they are quite popular. Not so much for normal, everyday use, but for mopping up after using any meds or other potentially harmful additives. I suppose they work just as well in freshwater too.

I'm in the minority that use them quite regularly in planted tanks. I'm more interested in plants that help create a place than in growing the equivalent of the 40-pound zucchini. So I'm less fearful of adsorbing some copper and iron-- these are the nutrients that are in question, when you really look into the reasons NOt to use PolyFilters in a planted tank.

BUT, are chelating molecules still working when one end is stuck to PolyFilter? I think so... I think I think so...
