Is this a low light tank?

Hi everyone,
I just got a 3 gallon tank for my betta (Waterhome 3) with a 9 watt compact fluorescent light. The distance from light to gravel is approximately 9.5 inches. Would this be considered a "low light" tank? I've got some anacharis plants (I think!) in there, but am not sure what type of plants to put in next.
Thanks :)

Agreed...

I would agree that it is a low light tank. In general for smaller tanks (10G and less), the light rule is thrown out the window.

For your tanks...I would say (and this is MY opinion)
For a high light tank - I would say around 35W+.
Moderate Light - 25W-35W
Low to Moderate Light - 20W- 25W
Low light - <20W

I have a 5.5G with 40 watts of directed light with 3 bulbs (one on each side and one along the back)

Also note that compact fluorescent lights pack more "punch" than NO fluorescent and incandescent.

Recommendation - get another 9W CF bulb if possible over that and you would be good to grow alot of plants. Otherwise, see above for lists of low light plants.

Good Luck

Aries
