I like the look of dwarf gourmais. I'm wondering how many could live happily in my 29 gallon tank. It currently has four corys and three ottos. Would adding two male and two or three dwarf gourmais be o.k.?

gouramis are territorial against their own kind so there is some risk in having two males in a 29. Its possible that if you have enough foliage or surface decor that they may be able to set up two territories in the limited space. Good luck finding any females, most LFS don't carry them because they're not as colorful as the males and they don't transport well.

I found a store that has what appears to be females because of the their dull grey color. The local "fishboy" was unable to sex them for me though.

I have a 70gallon tank.. and I have two dwarf gourmis.... they're very peaceful fish and should be kept in pairs.... because when they are kept in pairs they will swim together.... I was suggest only getting two of them for your tank...

If they dull grey they are probably females. From experience females do not fight. So a male and 2 females??

Why would they fight?.... They're peaceful fish...

Gouramis are related to bettas and the males tend to be territorial. While they are generally peaceful community fish, they likely will not do well with another male gourami. One would dominate and pick on the other (possibly to sickness or death).

Mine as of yet love each other... most the time they swim together, but sometimes they also swim on their own... have never noticed them picking on each other... and they're starting to both get big.... but, thinking about it they might both be females, because their colours aren't really all that bright.... pretty dull, but they are now starting to brighten up just a tand bit...
