Can you believe this?!?! How sad... There have been way too many natural disasters in the last year or so for my liking!! The tsunami, Katrina, the floods in Guatemala and central america, smaller earthquakes all over the world...

And NOW, they're trying to scare the @#*&#@ out of us with all the bird flu talk

It is quite unfortunate. I feel terrible for everyone that's dealt with this stuff. Just been a bad year. That happens sometimes.

Of course, some of it may be increased reporting of these situations. Without Katrina and the other stuff, would we have heard about landslides/floods in Guatemala? Maybe not.

I've also been amazed with the coverage. I couldn't turn the tsunami stuff off for the life of me, and I haven't been able to get much info. on the earthquake at all  !!

And now the conspiracy theories are starting about N.O, that the levees were bombed, etc....

C'mon get real!! They bombed the levies? Why would anyone want to do that? Especially when they have the power to controll when, where, and how hard these natural disasters hit anyways?
yep, good point fishy

Hard to believe (not really, considering the News media), but there were reports of cannabalism in New Orleans too...

And, of course, it's not true.

-----------------

What's true of this earthquake was the U.S. responded quicker than in New Orleans' Katrina!! :thud:

All of this was very horrible... however, most of us forget that this kind of stuff does happen alot. The thing is that the media does not cover all of it all of the time. They decide what to cover and when to cover it... they do it to build suspense and to make the "unbelievable" more believable. I used to date a girl that was an executive producer at NBC locally. She gave me the skinny on how they went about the buisness. Basically, it's the presentation and the delivery.

Not knocking anyone... just how it is.

That is what I find so scary about the media  !! And of course I feel horrible about the girl who has been missing in Aruba, but when I flip through the news channels late at night, they have all been about her the last few days and not more than a quick newsflash about the 40,000+ dead (if thats accurate, can't get a good report  ) in Pakistan...

Scary stuff!! I still wonder if the supposed "big one" to hit California will happen in my lifetime :o
