So, I just looked at my tank and realized one of my zebra danios is missing. I looked everywhere for him, I took the filter apart, lifted all the rocks in the tank, moved all my stuff around the tank and can't find him. I don't know when he disappeared, either last night or today. If he did jump out, how long will it be before I will notice a smell of the fish that I can't find? Also, if he didn't jump out, what is the likely hood that a pictus cat got him? the danio was roughly 1-1/2" and the pictus is only 3". I also have a rainbow shark in there, but I think its more likely the pictus got him if anyone did. I just hope that is what happened and he didn't jump out.

It is entirely possible that the fish died, and then the carcass was eaten by the other fish in the tank. Pretty much any fish will take the opportunity to snack on an available carcass.

take it from me, whose had experience with a pictus catfish and danios in the same tank. The pictus ate your danio. They're carnivorous, hunt at night and will eat anything that can fit into their mouths.

I agree it was likely the pictus. Danios tend to sink to the bottom to sleep, where they are easily picked off by nocturnal predatory cats.

If it did happen to jump (cna happen, just not as likely), with something as small as a danio, you probably won't smell anything. They dessicate pretty quickly. You might find a small dried husk one day. I never have, because my cats usually locate a jumper long before they can dry up.
