Alright I'm cycling my 50G tank right now. I'm trying to decide what kind of community to put in it.

I was planning on putting 8 neons, 8 zebra Danio's, and then a rainbow shark, a few snails and a few crabs.

But I still have some stocking room for another shaol of fish. I was wanting Tiger barbs, but have some concerns that they might bother the neon's, snails or maybe the ranbow shark. I already have 4 neon's that I'm moving to this tank, so I don't want to not have them in the 50G tank.

So if I got 5-7 tiger barbs, would they mix fine with the other fish? Or should I just go with something other than tiger barbs?

I have four tigar barbs in with a zebra danio, two fancy guppies, three ADF, and 1 male betta. I have had no problems nor have I noticed any nipped fins. I think it all depends alot on tank size and may individual fish. I know I have had some male bettas who could not be with other fish in the community tank while others get along fine.

Watch out with crabs, they are never really peaceful and will take any chance they get to eat a neon or danio. If you do get tiger barbs I would get at least 7 of them to dimisnish aggression but then also increase the size of your neon and danio schools so they can stand up for themselves. Good luck!!

I can't speak for the neons (I can't keep them alive for the life of me). But I have had barbs and they have gotten along with gouramis and tetras of all sorts.

Thanks for the responses. Tiger barbs it is! At the LFS they have them in a large tank with a variety of large and small fish, and the tiger barbs don't seem to harm them at all.

I was a little worried about the crabs, but they have tiny claws (not fiddler crabs) and only grow to about 2'' wide, so I don't think they're big enough to harm any fish.

get info on the crabs becouse some arnt fully aqutic and will escape if the tank doesnt have a tight fitting hood

I'll second the cherry barb suggestion. A lot more peaceful than tiger barbs although I've read while they like each others company, they are not great shoaling fish.

I don't know anything about the crabs but definitely find out all you can about them.
