I recently bought a 55g acrylic tank and want to move most of my stuff from my 29g to it. I plan to use the 29 as the sump for the 55.

I also got about 30-40lbs of base rock wit the tank. I allready placed a large bulk of it in my 29 (after boiling it, and washing it) I only left out some questionable rocks. One looked like quartz rock and the other like a big junk of very dense lime stone...

My main question is; If I use the LR from my 29 and the water from changes for the 55g will I still need to do a cycle on the 55?

I'm thinking about just adding 15g of established water to 30g of new water and then adding some cycle to the tank to give it a boost start.

Another question; How long should it take for my little critters to find the new base rock and to make new homes in it?

Note: I still need to finish paiting my stand and building a new hood for the tank. I plan to build in space for 4 48inch flourescents (already have everything except bulbs) and in the middle I want space for one or two 175w double ended MH's (will get after I sell more stuff on ebay :p

Thanks for your help...

You can probably get away with moving everything over at once. The live rock from the 29 should be adequate, but you will want to watch the ammonia and do water changes if necessary.

Which critters are you wondering about?

Agree--I've swapped tanks this way before, with the exception of putting in a new substrate and just taking sample scoops of the substrate from the existing tank rather than moving the whole thing (messy). Critters start going into the new base immediately, coralline can be a bit slower, but it shows up within a month if you scrape some off the old stuff.

Sounds good,

I cant wait to get this thing going... I'm so excited to go bigger that I'm searching my closets for stuff to sell on ebay for awesome prices. I need to build up my positive feedback score so I can sell more stuff.

Once I build up the money I want to run water and sewer out to my heated garage and setup several diversified tanks that I can frag off of.

I love the marine tanks, I just hate the wait, even though I can site for hours looking at algae, worms, and mini feather dusters... etc, etc...

I plan on buying some other cool stuff online once I have my 55 up and going. I want to get some hardy shrooms, and things that I can put in my young tanks.

Thanks for you help guys,
BTW, Mo and Orion , you are the two people I most respect on this website, so Thanks for all your input. Everyone else has great info too but for some reason I don't fully grasp it until you confirm it :)

Thanks again, Everyone...
