I am very interested in almost covering the gravel with plants in my ten gallon. What plant could I use that would almost reach the waterline in my tank, but is still easy to care for. The only problem is that I have no place to put it if it gets too big for a 10. So maybe one that won't be bigger than 10 inches high once it's fullgrown. I already have java ferns and they go about 1/3 of the height.

thanks!

Lobelia
Corkscrew val
Broadleaf sag

These are ones I've grown that don't get too tall. You can also keep stems and just cut them to height when needed.

im not sure if i understood the question correctly but i would suggest stem plants anyway :D

they don't require a lot, grows pretty fast (will definitely reach ur waterline), and u can just cut it if it gets too long.. and u can replant the parts that u did cut..

maybe some cabomba and some pondweeds will do, just an opinion though

are you thinking of one big plant or multiple small plants?
One big plant- and I like broad-leafed plants. I already keep moneywort, which is a stem plant, they are alright.

Like I said, I keep moneywort. they are a hoot! I bought three(I think) and now I have....let me go up and count......eleven short ones(I counted!)!! And one of them has a doubled stem, too! Yup, they are fun, but I prefer the broadleafed plants.
I think the lobelia would be the only one that I could keep because I don't have a nutrient-rich substrate, only gravel and the regular plant food.

It is really not possible to suggest plants without knowing your setup, wpg, substrate, ferts, etc.

Also, a fullsize java fern (ie not Windelov or narrow leaf), when adult, would just about consume a 10g tank.

try floating that common spade vine house plant for now ,it should be free as many of us have it in our homes or hand me down rooted clippings from our parrents. someone told me they thought it was a type of rododendron but I searched & that didn't look like it .the one I mean is ussualy varigated grean & off white spade shaped leaves diagonaly across from one another every 4 inches or so with root points @ the leaf stem.
Rododemdron loks more outdoor to me darker solid leaf with 5 leafs coming from stem.
I wish I could tell you the name of it.Just ask for the most common houseplant & look for spade shaped ivy style vine. alot of people have cuttings around their house in a glass of water near their kitchens ,,, thats the one you want. it should last mounths in your tank @ wich time the vine would have grown a fresh supply for you .
Any aquatic plants i suggest getting a small plant book & do a little research ( !! WITH PICTURE!! ) its more fun that way you don't bring something home that wil die on you .most places will sell you whatever you ask for & you don't want to set yourself up for disappointment.

Given what is growing in the tank I would think that suggesting Cryptocoryne beckettii is within reason. Several large specimens of that species would have leaves that reached up to the surface or close. If you obtained a range of sizes a very nice arrangement of them could be made.
