Help! The filter on my GOLDFISH tank broke! Even if I order a new one today it won't get in for a couple weeks, what should I do? I can't even get to a petsmart(do they even have filters?) for a week, I'm gonna be out of town. Are my fish gonna die? Also recomendations for a 29/30 gallon filter would be appriciated. Help me :-(

(do they even have filters?)

Yeah, they do. You sure you can't make it out to a store? Are you sure you can't fix it?

A good replacement would be an AquaClear

No I can't fix it, it was just a crappy one that came with the walmart aquarium kits. And I can't make it to a store, I have to go to school and live an hour and a half from any big petstores, I have one in town but they don't have filters. Will they die without filtration for a week? I will be feeding them alot less.

If its only a week or two, I would not even feed them at all, maybe once or twice if you feel really guilty!! The best thing you can do is water changes every other day or so, that should keep the waste down and agitate the water some.

For anyone that knows, would stirring the water (literally) help?

If you can get a sponge filter, and not feed at all, and do a large water change and clean the gravel, that will help. Maybe have someone add a dose of Prime every other day to control ammonia until the sponge gets going.

With out a filter you will need to do a lot of water changes. Do not just dose with prime, you can feed your fish just do so sparingly. You can add an air line with a stone to increase surface agitation, but key here is DO WATER CHANGES. You may want to consider a water change every 2-3 days depending on your fish load and how much waste they produce.

you can pick up another cheapy filter from walmart, i find those aquatechs works decent, especially since they are the only ones open late at night for emergencies, and then your filter cartridges will already be seeded. otherwise just get something to move the water and do some small daily changes. if your fish are healthy and at a decent size i wouldnt even feed them, they will be able to go the week or so easily.
