I went to a local lfs that I have only been to a couple of times. He said he had some Brazillian live rock and that it was relatively new to the hobby. He said it was the best rock he'd seen - it was full of life and weighed half of "normal" figi type rock. So you can get twice the rock size for the same weight. He was selling it for $8 a lb, which is pretty steep for live rock. Was he right in what he told me? Is it good rock and does it really weigh that much less? Has anyone heard of it or what?

Thanks

Not sure...never seen/heard of Brazillian rock. In terms of livestock, it's going to be very similar to aquacultured Caribbean rock, like the stuff available from Gulf View or TBS. The weight is odd as Atlantic rock is almost ALWAYS much more dense than Pacific rock...the trade-off is that Atlantic rock tends to have much more life. It would definitely be great if this Brazillian stuff had the porosity of Pacific rock, but I wouldn't bet on it.
