I don't know if any of you remember my battle with the BGA, but it raged for 2 years! :( I tried everything, from chemicals to lights out to heavy planting etc. etc. even re-setting up one of my tanks, nothing but nothing worked on the blasted stuff, every week I'd have to siphon it out of my tanks and was getting really depressed. So I went to buy some more plants to cheer myself up and replace those the BGA had killed off yet again :( As usual I started with a tour of the tanks and spied some lovely Brochis splendens, never seen them before so after confirming they'd be ok with the cories I bought two of them. On getting home I spied what looked like a shrimp case in the bag and took a closer look, only to find we had an accidental shrimp :D well, I called the shop and they confirmed it as an algae shrimp, so in he went to the quietest tank, also the worst affected with BGA. By the next morning large amounts of BGA were missing and he could be seen munching on a carpet of the stuff - he was a shrimp on a mission LOL after 2 days I decided he needed help so I went back (60 mile round trip  ) and got 5 more :D I now have 12 of the little dears all working to keep my tanks in the best condition they've ever been in. I've had them a year now and my tanks are pristine - no BGA anywhere ever since! they seem to 'farm' the other algae, there's just enough to make the wood and rocks look 'timeless' the plants are in lovely condition and they seem to eat the dead bits that fall off so maintenance is a doddle. I'd recommend them anytime and they're a fascinating addition, the kids love them, we often play find the shrimp :D :D

Oh and the Brochis are beautiful, really stunning :D

I'm just wondering what else is in the tanks?

Loads of plants, Emperor Tetras, Bleeding Heart Tetras, Bolivian Ram, Bristle nose cat, Corydoras', Brochis, Glolight Tetras, Diamond Tetras, not all in the same tank LOL
I have at least 5 shrimp in one tank and 6 in another :)

The water parameters are
Nitrites 0, Nitrates 10ppm, pH 6.8, GH>7, KH3. The tapwater here is pretty perfect for Discus and Tetras, I have to add Calcium (Coral gravel) for the Shrimp and to keep the pH from falling ;)
I paid £10 for 5 shrimp (and of course the first one was free :) ) so £20 for 10 of them, that's quite expensive here but the shop I go to charge more than most, but they quarantine all stock for 2 weeks when it arrives from the supplier ;) They also won't sell goldfish tanks without a filter and refuse to stock dyed fish :D It's a dedicated Aquarists shop :D
