Yes it will hold it, it's only around 500 lbs. A floor will not have a problem holding that much. an if your floor couldn't hold the weight, it would have already broke.

I merged the threads to help out.
One point: Make sure you don't spill water, since this could weaken the floor. Watch for bowing, since this could negatively impact the tank, causing it to twist and break.
However, this is just cautionary--it shouldn't happen. As long as your tank is located to cross the joists and near a support wall, you'll be fine.

It still should be a problem. Think, the floor can definitely hold 3 average size men standing next to eachother. The floor can hold more weight then that tank. Even if the floor gets wet, it won't weaken it enough to break.

Your logic is flawed. I dont have time to get into it, but heres a link:

Great reference, slip, well worth the read.
It's myth #10 that explains the flaw in logic, in case someone else doesn't want to review the whole thing.

I've never heard of any first hand accounts of a tank falling through, has anyone here heard? I'd be interested.

Don't worry, you are fine.

Agreed with that. Old homes are generally built even better than new ones. A 50 gallon tank isnt going to be that much weight, my bed probably weighs around that much.

I have found this to be an interesting discussion with some great information. I read through the article and actually understood most of it :)
I am getting a 65 gallon tank from All Glass and the stand as well. The base size of it is 36 inches by 18 inches and according to the information from All Glass it will be ~ 775lbs full (not sure of the weight of the stand). The stand is the solid pine series and has a solid runner for weight distribution. The place that I am thinking of putting it will probably be okay, but wanted to get an opinion after seeing this thread. I haven't actually looked under the floor yet (no basement, and pretty small crawlspace).
I will try to describe where I am putting it (I've attached a rough drawing). It will be in a sunken living room (about 6 inches lower then the rest of the house) against a short wall. In the corner next to it is an old wood stove (no longer working, so they won't be cooked) that sits on a brick platform. All the other furniture in the room will be at least several feet away from the tank. If you look at the picture you can get a better idea of what I am describing. Looking at everything it looks like there will be enough support and it's not excessively heavy, so I think it will be okay. As I said, after coming across this thread I figured it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks.

If that is the bottom floor, then you will be fine.
