I'm going to be purchasing a 100 gallon rubbermaid stock tank, and I'm trying to figure out what the best way to filter it would be. The tank has a drain at the bottom of it as well. Stock tank

It will be housing a red-eared slider turtle (about 4.5" long) and will be sitting on my floor.

Any recommendations?

build your own skippy filter. should cost about 25 dollars plus whatever pump you use.

im planning on buying a rubbermaid 150 gallon stock tank and im trying to figure out the same thing......i wonder if you can use pvc where the drain plug is and attach a valve so that water changes won't be such a PAIN!

The drain plug is threaded, so I would screw in a fitting and attach a threaded ball valve and a barb with a hose to drain it wherever you needed to. It would make water changes a breeze. I had a 100gal stock tank that I basically built a giant canister filter for. I took two 5' sections of 4" PVC and used fittings to have a hose in and out on each end, and filled them with lava rock, then just put a pump in the tank. I use a similar setup on my pond, just a bit bigger. You just have to backflush the filter, maybe once a year or so to blow some of the gunk off the rock.
