Dead fish getting black/Velvet treatment

Hi. I was treating this pearl gourami for supossedly velvet using cooper sulphate in a hospital tank. Today, when I woke up I realized I lost the fight.

What called my attention was the black spot that appeared over the fish head just like when you hit a finger with a hammer. Anyone has an idea what was that?

Also, is there any way to medicate a big tank against velvet with something different that cooper? I have rays and balas in that tank, and both are sensitive to cooper.

Formalin and malechite is said to be highly effective against velvet, Blackouts and salt will help with the battle, but most folks don't consider them stand alone treatments.

As far as the black spot, it could have been velvet, or the fish may have spazzed out and banged his head on something. Sorry to hear your lost the battle.

What causes a black spot like that?
 
I think that I read somwhere that the black spot is an ammonia burn?? How was water tests?
