HELP!!! don't know what to do all of a muddle

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all i thought ,my loach was attacking my fish, then i thought it was White spot ( though i'm still not 100% sure i can totally rule that out), now i think the new 3 spot gourmi i put in 2 weeks ago had killed all my fish.
From the start! my fish started dying not long after i got him, i caught my loach eating a dead fish and presumed he had killed them, took him out and the killings continued. Then though i spotted white spot, though i'm still not 100% sure its not that, but the fish that died have no spots just the ones in the tank, only a few and far between. But yesterday i caught the guormi attacking, so took him out. usually after work i come back to 2 or 3 dead, nothing yesterday, and then normally i wake up to 2 or 3 dead, nothing this morning, does that mean its the guormi, is this the norm for them. i took him out as soon as i realise and the killings stopped. When i brought him it said peaceful communtity fish, i do also have a honey guromi that i have ad for ages and shes never done anything like this, though the two guormis didn't seem to get on like i thought they would, help please don't know what to do! Was in the middle of treating fot white spot, will it harm the fish if they don't have it and i carry on treating them, thanks for your help in advance! Sorry abnout the long post.

my gourami Never attack my fish, I have Blue Honey Gold fire opaline and pearl, with other fish listed with my signature, I've never had a problem with any of them being killed by them, my Golds were rambunctious for awhile bit they've settled now, I would check your water levels and take some water to a LFS and have them test it,

i have just posted the same question on my IS this white spot post and i have had replies to say it is the 3 spot that they have had trouble. It just seems to much of a coiniceidence that as soon as i take him out the killing stops, thanks for you in put though very much apprieciate!

New tank?

I suspect that this is a new tank and that all these problems are related to cycling. Have you got test kits to measure ammonia and nitrites? If so please give us that data.

When a new tank has a lot of fish added right away, the high ammonia levels can kill fish. So the fish that died may have died from ammonia, then the other fish just pick at the body. As ammonia continues to rise, the remaining fish can become aggressive, attacking other fish. In their little fish brains, they know there are too many fish here, and if they can drive some away or make them jump out, the water will be better.

Probably you need to do a water change, and be certain to properly treat the water for chlorine or chloramine and to match the tank temperature when you do it.

I;ve had the tank for nearly 8 years

OK, what is the water change schedule? Low volume and/or infrequent water changes can lead to bad water and high nitrates or ammonia levels.

What sort of medications have you used in this tank? Many meds can hurt the biofiltration, leading to the same bad water.

Have you added any fish to the tank in the couple of weeks before the trouble began? Perhaps you brought in a disease that your old fish were not able to handle.

How crowded is the tank? If all the fish are old fish, and they have been in the tank a long time, it may be that they have outgrown the tank, too crowded, not enough filtration for the mass of fish now, and that leads to bad water.

Any recent power faliures? Maybe the filter went off and got nasty and then came back on and that lead to bad water conditions.

oops -- I see that you did add a fish 2 weeks ago. Probably brought in some thing from the pet store. Maybe ich or any of a number of other things. Then the old fish were so stressed by the new guy suddenly in their home that they got sick. This is why quarantine is so important. Best to have a bare 10 gallon tank and keep new fish there for 4 weeks, if any die or get ill, 4 more weeks until all are well for the full time
