Have had some fun on the lathe. The bowl is mahogany, maple, and walnut (bottom to top), first pen is made of figured maple and cocobolo, and the second is a wood called Ipe (eee-pay) that is about the heaviest, hardest wood you can commonly get.

I sell the pens on the side, make great Christmas gifts. They are $35 incl. shipping and are about 6" long. Not a huge source of income, I just like making them. I can use mahogany, maple, cocobolo (type of rosewood), walnut, ipe, or any type you'd like to have.
Just send me an email and I should be able to ship by Christmas. Redfishsc AT hotmail.com (use @ for the AT)

Those are beautiful. Whenever I make stuff you can always tell.... not that that is always a bad thing but those are very very lovely and they look like they came straight out of a magazine or something.

If the pens are $35, how much for the bowl?? ;)

It's absolutely gorgeous!

Aknif, lol, the bowl would be around $100, but it's not for sale, it's what we keep napkins in on our table. Though I do have wood laying around to do another one with..... There are many, many woodturners that wouldn't bat an eye at charging $200 for the bowl. Me, personally, I'd rather make my own than dump $200, but then again I have the equipment to do it and the money invested in the training.

Cheech, they are all three finished the same way--- with catalyzed lacquer (called MagnaMax) diluted with lacquer thinner and hand-rubbed on with the lathe running. Makes a very, very thin but lovely coating that shows off the wood. I love it. Cheap too, a cup of lacquer does dozens of pens and bowls if used properly.
