My LFS had 10g aquariums for $7 so I bought one. Now I am trying to come up with stocking ideas. I was think dwarf gouramis, or darf puffers. Any ideas?

Betta...or a crayfish, I'd choose one crayfish or take the ten gallon back and get a bigger size.

10 gal stock with brackish fish

many brackish fish are smallish like gobys and livebearears. the smallest fish i ever kept was a brakish/freshwater gobys and mosquito fish.

How about some kuhli loaches, a few tetras, and guppies?
If you want to go for sumthing more appealing try:
a few dwarf gouramis
or ram cichlids
and surround them with smaller fish like neons, white clouds or any other compatible small fish.
Maybe you can just upgrade your betta to the 10 and get other betta compatible fish?

Do not do guppys--- can be agressive, breed like rabbits, not a good idea for someone "new" to this to go mixing those fish with Tetras in a limited size tank.

I would recommend avoiding dwarf Gourami's if you are new, especially the dwarf chocolate- you will lose them if you can't keep the water quality in good shape.

As a tangent- In a very large tank, a school of dwarf chocolates schooling around a big piece of driftwood or in some plant leaves is a heck of a sight!

male gouramis should never be kept together, they're like bettas, males will fight. you could fit ONE in a 10 gallon, with a few small tetras. unless you get a large tank like a 20 or 30 gallon, then you could have two male dwarf gouramis and like 6 females.

I like the idea of ram cichlids, could I get 2 or is 1 the limit.

That is not a bad idea- or any of the Apistogramma... some of them are really small and colorful.

a pair or rams would be fine in a 10. A small school of tetras might be ok also. That's about all I'd put in there though.

OOOOOOO.... Do Dwarf Puffers. I am currently Cycling my 15G for my 3 Dwarfs im soooooo excited!!!
