i was wondering about setting up a 29 gallon saltwater tank, is this feasable?

would there be room for many fish, or would i be looking at mainly a lot of live rocks and other living organisms.

am i correct that you need 5lbs of rock per gallon?

are there small eels, or other small creatures that are decent for this size of tank.

i am just trying to get some basic information and decide if it would be somethig i want to try

thanks in advance..

A 29 gallon tank is quite reasonable. You would not have room for a lot if fish, but there are many small species that would do well.

Somewhere between 1 and 2 pounds of live rock per gallon is more than adequate.

For a tank that size, focusing on invertebrates, and having a few fish, works very well.

its very possible...thats what i have!! (short term anyway) just be very careful in stocking it! research any inhabitants and keep only small species. and like mo said..focus more on inverts.

are the clown fish small enough or something similiar to them ?

i was thinking more invertebrates, than fish

also i saw something today at one of the locally owebd LFS it was a long catepillare liek thing that was creeping around the tank very slowly, some kind of worm.. would something like that be possible i am new to all these creepy litte saltwater creatures

well also using 2 pounds per gallon woudl be eaier to get it home, i was imaging driving all the way home with 150 pounds of live rock and then trying to imagine how they woudl go into a tank that small.

thanks

like i said im still in research phase for this me and my wife liek watching the salwater tanks at the LFS lots of pretty and unusual things are always in them.

A pair of clowns will be quite happy in a 29.

There are lots and lots of creepy, crawly things that you can buy, or will just show up with the live rock. It may be the best part of the hobby.

Definitely possible. Here's my 30g :D

are there small eels

Yes.

Chestnut Moray Eel: very rare, brown in color. I belive it grows to 8 inches.

Golden Dwarf Moray: very expensive, but very cool. Can be kept w/ fish and inverts that won't fit in its mouth.

Ghost Ribbon Eel (sometimes known as White Ribbon Eel) Pseudechidna brummeri: grows to 40 inches, yet can be kept in smaller tanks because of how they fold their body upon themselves. Perfect for people who like the looks of Ribbon Eels but can't keep them alive.

i dont think i can get an eel around here so i am thinking of going with a pair of clownfish and some inverts and corals.

can you buy clownfish already mated/paired or does it matter?

thanks again

Running a 10 gallon SW

My 10 gallon supports several inverts and corals and one very territorial Yellow-Tailed Damselfish quite well. Before that I ran a 1 gallon nano...that was a task!
