i would like to know how many AC members like to use the aquarium backgrounds and who likes to paint or use solid backgrounds...

All my tanks are painted black. I think the backgrounds look stupid, and no matter how hard I try I still get water between them and the glass, which looks awful.

I tried blue on a marine tank once. I had seen it at a lfs and it looked good, but mine did not.

Black or blue background. To get them attached and streak free, smooth a little bit of vegetable oil on the glass, lay down the background, and use a credit card or squeegee to remove any bubbles. This will hold the background in place, and prevent drips.

I have a marine reef background on my mantis tank--it's a weird sized tank, so there really aren't many choices. It doesn't look too bad, though I'd be happier with a solid color. The mantis prevent cleaners in there, so keeping the back panel clean is a pain, and doesn't get done when I'm busy (ie, most of the time).

Painted the reef back blue. Nothing on the other tanks.

Lol, at this point coraline red! I usually just use a black or white sheet of paper taped to the back of the tank. I know that I'm lazy and it's going to wind up red any way.

Mine is actually a photo of blue water...darker at the bottom than at the top. You really can't tell from looking at it, so I voted "solid".

I have a solid black back for all of my tanks, but am now wondering if i am just robbing my light's of their full potential. Would white reflect more light and improve the effects of my lights?

I started off with a static black limo tint background which was ok, but then decided to use a light blue latex paint on the back of my tank and am very pleased with the way it looks.
