african Cichlid lighting

do african cichlids need alot of light??.....i have a 55g and it is well under the requirment for the tank....although i dont have any plants in my tank........


And do do double light strips give off more light if it is placed in the same place as the single light or will it look the same??....i no its a dumb question...but curious b4 i spend the money on one. :clap:
 
two lights means twice the light but if your not gunna have live plants there is no need for it imo.. plus dual lights might be to bright all around
 
in my opinion, ambient lighting can be plenty if you're not growing plants. fluorescent lighting is really for YOUR viewing pleasure. the fish don't care either way as long as there's sufficient ambient light for them to have a normal diurnal cycle.

i only turn on my tank lights at feeding time ... an hour before and about a half hour afterwards.
