I just noticed 5 small snails eating away at the little bit of algae on my glass. They probably hitched a ride in on one of my plants which I did not treat in alum. I've read that these snails are very great at breading. Should I be alarmed about my plants possibly becomming a food source or will they continue to feed on algae and other detritus in the tank? I don't own any clown loaches or other snail eaters since the tank is only a 29 gallon. Pretty much this tank is a moderately high light tank with CO2 injection and has about 65% of the substrate covered in plants.

Read the Beginners Guide to Snails (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50705) before making a decision about trying to get rid of them.

IME the snails that come in with plants (pond snails, ramshorn, MTS) are incapable of chewing through healthy plant matter.

If they were hitchhikers then I would guess that they are either common pond or ramshorn snails (possibly MTS), none of which are cause for alarm. I have both pond snails and MTS in my tanks, and they are not a problem at all. I actually like having them in my tanks for biodiversity. I even have worms in my substrate, which I don't hear about often but I think it's great having them!
