I really like my XP 2 except for one problem..I have a heck of a time priming it if it looses it's prime. I have to have hubby help me, and one of us pours the water in the tubing at the cap on the intake, and the other works the pump. After much wailing, gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair..on my part..it finally goes. He's pretty calm about it..lol. It drives me nuts. Any hints..tips..something I'm missing?

the only trouble I've ever had on an XP3 was when I forgot to open the quick disconnect valve and the water I poured into the hose just filled the filter rather than just the tube.

Maybe the airlock thing..not sure. After much wiggling of hoses and flipping the quick dissconnect lever back and forth things finally worked. Working fine now.

Doug...is that you?? Quite a surprise this early!!(or is that late..)

I have two XP2 and after the first prime do not have to reprime it. The only time I when I have to prime is when I clean my CO2 reactor which drains the pressure sometimes (depends on if I am paying attention or not).

But, when I fill up the canister after cleaning the media, I make sure it is all the way full (spills over when I put the top on). Then I shake it around to push out any air left. This way there is very little air when I restart and it can easily overcome this little amount.

I think the FilStar series is good at overcoming air pressure problems. One time after I cleaned it, I attached it to an outlet that was on a timer and it turned off every night while CO2 was pumping into it. It turned on every day. Thankfully I caught it 3 days afterwards.

Just my $0.02

The lever on the quick disconnect is up which closes the valve so that the water you pour into the hose is ONLY filling the hose, not the canister itself. When the hose is full, you screw the cap on. The intake tube is in the water and you flip the quick disconnect handle down. The water in the hose flows into the canister creating a vaccum and therefor pulls more water into the hose which fills the canister. If this is not working, there is an air leak somewhere. The cap, a connection in the intake line, or the quick disconnect itself.
You can also leave the lever down and pour water down the hose to fill the canister until it and the hose if full, but that's unnecessary.
