I just recently suffered a three day power outage due to a nasty ice storm that hit my area. I tried to save my fish, but alas only three have survived so far. One is my spotted leopard puffer. His tank is not working since the power came back on a couple of hours ago, so I am trying to convert my larger community tank for him. I cleaned it out, changed over about half the water, put ocean salt in, etc., and have been monitoring the temp to make sure it is stable. Do I have to let the tank cycle for a while since it has been sitting for three days? I would like to get the puffer a home as quickly as possible (he currently is in a blue pitcher), but I would hate to lose him after all that he survived so far. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The concentration of ammonia is going to be much greater in the pitcher than in a large tank. I would put him in & moniter the ammonia & nitrites closely, doing water changes accordingly.

you can control temperature better in the tank and there is a greater oxygen exchange as well. if he's not in there yet, get him there.

good luck. :D
