Hi guys,

Im planning a trip to 4 LFS around Michigan during spring break and I need your opinions since I dont want to waste my time going to a lousy LFS. By the way I am interested in SA/CA cihclids, catfishes and oddballs such as puffers etc. These are the 4 LFSs that I am planning to go to, any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanx alot

1. Pet Connection Livonia
2. Cichlid World Garden City
3. Commonwealth Display Southgate
4. Rosdale Aquarium Detroit

Check out www.wetthumbaquatics.com but they are not open for customers every day. The schedule is on their website.

If you are into marine/saltwater, you've gotta go to:

www.tropicorium.com (http://www.tropicorium.com)

Check the website, they have certain hours they are open to the public.

Well, this isn't in Michigan - but given the mix of fish you mentioned - and the fact that you enjoy oddballs - you should take a look at this place - if you are willing to have fish shipped:

www.alloddballaquatics.com

They have a big selection of the fish you typically don't see in stores - and oddball catfish, cichlids and other oddballs are what they specialize in. You can check out the list of what they have in stock on their site

My favorite LFS is Aqua-Tech Engineers in Ann Arbor. The Fish Doctors in Ypsillati usually has a lot of oddballs. Both places are very nice with very knowledgable employees. Preuss Aminal House in Lansing has quite a cichlids but not many oddballs. I always like to find new fish stores but I come out of a lot of them very dissappointed. Last weekend I went in Simply Fish in Williamston and they had Discus in the same tank as Venestus, two fish that live in waters on the opposite ends of the pH scale. Never waste you time going to that place.

I frequent aquatech and fish doctors too....is aquatech the one along packard road? if it is i think they charge way too high for their fish....but fish doctors provide the best service still and they can get almost any fish for u....its not cheap either though...

Aqua Tech Engineers is on Packard. I know that their prices a high but most of their fish are higher quality. Also the tanks there a spotless . I don't think that The Fish Doctor's fish prices are high but the dry goods are. There is a place in Jackson called the Pet Station. They have a big asortment of fish but the staff isn't very knowledgable. I know a girl that worked there that got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from one of the lizzard. Where are you from? I live about 20 miles south west of Ann Arbor.
