which substrate

Shekoi

Trying to start up again
i have a few options for a substrate in my new 60g.

1- flourite only 3inches deep

2 - flourite and old river gravel mix

3 - eco complete live - has bacteria already in

4 - flourite and eco complete live mixed 2:1.

cheers shekoi.

also can anybody suggest any easy low light plants.

thanks. :bday: :duh:

I would go with option 1 or 2. 2, if you get a deeper substrate.

Now with that said, a lot of low light plants really dont care about substrate (Java fern, java moss, anubias all attach to objects). If you plan on keeping a low light tank, I would not worry too much about substrate. If you plant on making if more later on, go with flourite, you will not be dissappointed.

Java Fern
Java Moss
Most Anubias
Most Crypts (like a deep substrate and care more about what the substrate is)

Good luck

1- flourite only 3inches deep - Good option

2 - flourite and old river gravel mix - fair option and cheapest

3 - eco complete live - Good but most expensive option, nice black color, ignore the bacteria claims

4 - flourite and eco complete live mixed 2:1. - pointless, flourite and eco-complete are basically just as effective as each other and there's no benefit in mixing unless you like black and red gravel
