When I got my tank four years ago I immediately got a school of tiger barbs - I think they're beautiful and full of spunk. They were about 3/4"-1" long when I got them and grew to about 2.5"-3" long before dying (my last one died about a month ago). So I have a two part question... 1) How long should they live? Was this a good life span for Wal-Mart fish? 2) How big should they get? These just seemed huge to me considering they grew so fast. Thanks!!!

I'm learning so much!!!

Tiger barbs have a lifespan of around 6 yrs and they max out at aound 3". Considering they're from Wal-Mart, I'd say they lived a good long life.

That's great to know they can live longer than 3-4 yrs. I enjoyed them, so much personality! I have bought fish at all of the pet shops and Wal-marts in the area and the best fish I've got are from Wal-Mart. Sad huh? lol They lived longer than all of other fish and had much better personalities. There is a hobby shop in the area that I know of, but they're all saltwater (I go there to admire their tank, I have great respect for sw hobbyists!). I'm not een going to try that - ever. lol

While I'm at... how long is "good" in reference to tetras?

as long as there are no preditory fish... they should last for 3-6 years, I have some preditory fish, tetra except 3 of them are way too small and would be eaten
