Take not to the bigh guy in the middle row. The fish in the front are four inches. I use these as dithers in the Umbee tank.

And Jumbo...you can see the gold in his dorsal. That's from his mother's side of the family.

Three days out of breeding and the color has returned to the Bifasciatum. I have another tank full of fry in the fishroom. These guys breed like rats with fins.

Mojo, i love the pics.

Yours are always so incredibly good.

What camera do you use? How much extra light?

Are you in the Graphic Arts trade?

Sully. Thanks. I use a Nikon D70 with an APF800 flash. It's a great flash that enables me to remove it from the camera and use it as a "slave"...meaning angle it differently at the tank to fill in some of the dark areas.

I'm not in Graphic Arts. I own an advertising agency and do have an extensive Photo background, starting in the Army. I was the photo editor of a military magazine as well as a photographer for a hospital. That's where I got the majority of my photo training...photographing autopsies. As my old boss put it, you only have one chance to get the shot. They aren't going to dig it back up. We also had to do a lot of macro photography.

So all toll I have had some camera or another in my hand for close to thirty years. The advent of digital AND the computer just enabled me to practice more.

lol. I own a small ad agency. I have always thought of myself as in "graphic arts". But, a lot of what i do is in the print realm. Or the web. Not much in Radio or TV.

Your photos have the look of a professional. Lighting is part of it. Obviously you figured out how to focus long ago. Composition is the other aspect that just made me ask.

Where are you located, Sully? Lighting IS a big part of it. A lot of what I shoot for Print and Radio is much more static than the fish stuff. You would think I get enough at work...but it really is a release of tension when I take photos of the fish.

Thanks for the kudos.
