You mean the black landscape edging?? I'd be interested to know that too. Or if it was used in combination with some rock to make a terrace in the tank.

dont know how fishtank friendly that grade of plastic is. some plastics get hard and brittle when in water too long. i cut and use acrylic(plexiglass) alot in my tanks for dividers.
 
I just use real rocks or driftwood, makes it look nicer.
Another thing you can do to hide the edging: add dark cork glued to the edging and attach ferns, Anubias etc to that cork.

This looks nice and is easy to do, glass slats or heavier materials work better with cork though.

I wondered about the effect of the plastic in the tank too.

Rocks would look good and was actually my 1st thought..Just was thinking the runners would go between them,guess I could do slate straightup from the bottom of the tank as a mini wall.
