Okay, so I have just bought Quick-Cure to treat my cardinal tetras for ick. Now I am reading that it can be treated with salt and higher water temperature. In my 75g tank I have rummynoses, harlequin tetras, silver-tipped tetras, bala sharks and a siamese fighting fish. Is a salt treatment appropriate with all these kinds of fish? On the Quick-Cure bottle, the dosage for tetras is half of what it is for other fish. Does this mean that it is possibly toxic for them. If salt is a good alternative, what would the dosage be? I have read conflicting ideas on this topic and would really appreciate it being laid out by people who have done it. I have read that the ingredients in the Quick-Cure are carcinogenic. Not happy about that! I would really prefer to use salt if it is effective. Any ideas?

I have found that Aquari-sol is a lot easier on the fish than Quick Cure. I usually raise the heat slowly to 85, and use the Aquari-sol for a couple of days. I have several different tetras and they do fine with this.

what is causing your outbreaks? Are you doing water changes with water the same temp as your tank? adding new fish?

These are new fish that I have added. I do make regular water changes once a week, changing about 10gallons at a time and the water is at the same temp, or very close. I also add a water dechlorinator to the water before adding it to the tank.
