Kuhlies are great, but for me anyway,no see ems. Loaches need to be in groups, so a lot depends on how big your tank is. 200 g or more, definately get clown loaches. If you don't have swimming pool aspirations there are lots of loaches that stay a reasonable size and are as unique as the clown loach. The horsefaced loach buries itself in the sand/gravel, you may not often see the whole fish, but its kinda neat to see a head sticking out of the sand, The zebra loach (botia straita) don't get huge, are less shy than the horsefaced or kuhlie, and make the clicking noise at least when young. The seargent majors have wider stripes, i don't think get as big even as the straitas. I have also what I bought as a gold striped loach, that I've only had a few months, but its a lot less shy than the others. If you have a lot of current in your tank the butterfly (hillstream?) loaches should do well, they stick to the glass. Yoyos get bigger than the others and mine at least are rammie. But i keep them all in a community tank and even the yoyos don't eat or harass the other fish. Although, if I could catch them I would move the yoyos.
