As far as hair algae is concerned, most fish suckermouth fish will tackle it once it reaches a certain length. You may have to crop it down for them to be able to eat it. I'd go with the bristlenose, as they remain at manageable sizes. Of course you could also just clean the glass with a razor and use an old toothbrush to to clean off the hair algae as well. Just do it outside of the tank so you don't disperse any more algae spores.

your best bet would be to get an assortment of algae eaters..
1. 5-6 otos
2. 1-2 bristlenose
3. 3-4 "siamese" algae eaters (not to be confused with "chinese" algae eaters)
4. rosy barbs
5. amano shrimp(a dozen or more for larger tanks)
6. snails

Thanks for the replys, I will get the ottos and bristlenose(does anyone know which specific bristle to get?) I will get the siameses and shrimps if i can find them, and i allready have 7 apple snails about half the size of a grape, i'll give the rosy barbs a miss tho as i dont really like them:o :)

I have found nothign that will esat y green spot algae. I have a bristlenose, otos, SAE, amano shrimp and snails in my planted tank and still no one has touched it.
For the green spot algae i have found a razor to be best.
The snails in my tank eat green spot algae

I had a recent outbreak of green spot algae - and from my recent research, there are no algae eaters that eat it. You need to manually remove it.
I would be curious JP457 about those snails - are you sure its true green spot algae they are eating

I would not recommend CAE.They get big and when older stop eating algae and prefer flake or tabs. They get aggresive and like to suck onto fish and eat their slim coat(especially flat bosied fish).
I bought one of these when i first got started in fish and it was not a good fish.
I dont know what they are called but they arent any I ever saw before they apered in my tank. They have sort of cream collored bodies and brownish gold shells with speckles on them. I know they are eating it because I have seen them do so and you can see the trails they left through it in the denser parts.

For green hair algae, you can also try American Flagfish, they're great hair algae eaters.
The snails are sort of spherical with the whorl flattened on one side
I realize this isn't algae but bacteria, but I was wondering if anyone knows of anything that eats that blue bacteria. I recently had an outbreak and can't seem to get it all out of there despite frequent water changes and manually picking up colonies I see.
