View Full Version : Help me identify these cichlids??
I know the pictures suck....but it's all I have for now...
this pair of cichlids are usually more yellow than the pictures show...anybody know what they are? They were essentially dropped off at my house one day, and unfortunately are in a tank they shouldn't be in...hence the badly nibbled-at fins....

I have no clue what kind a cichlids they are but I do like your setup with the slate and rocks. How big is that tank and what do you have in it?
the tank is 80 gallons, and up until last night when I took it down, it had 150 pounds of slate and basalt in it, with black sand for substrate. The fish in the tank include 1 bumblebee cichlid, the 2 I can't identify, and 2 jewel cichlids. ALL of the fish were given to me without notice...by different people....and that's why they are all in the same tank, even though they shouldn't be. So if anyone is in the Vancouver Canada area and wants to take a couple fish off my hands.....let me know!!
The tank is now set up with a 1/3 of the slate/basalt that was in it before, and hopefully will stay much cleaner this way.

Rainbow Cichlid, Herotilapia multispinosa . Do a Google search and you should have more info than you know what to do with.

Hard to tell in the top picture. Almost looks african in body design.
However, in the second pic, I can see why Marcus leans to the rainbows. What makes it hard is that the pics are so dark.

I checked out the pictures I found of the r.c. and it's definitely it!!
thanks guys
now I just don't know what to do with them...
the person who dropped them at my place way back in the summer had them mixed with a pair of bumblebee cichlids (one of which is still in the tank). Apparently the LFS told him it was fine to put them together...
obviously, it is not!! hmmm what to do....

I believe they are Maylandia crabro.

nope, they're definitely rainbow cichlids.
the fish in the top right hand corner of picture #1, however, is a crabro, but I think he's pretty hard to see.
