My wife changed about 90% of the water in our 29 gallon gold fish tank (has two filters, heating element and 4 fish in it). She also put in some malachite green to combat some sort of fungus. We have had the tank for a year, with the same fish and never had any problems. Now all the fish are sitting at the bottom, barely moving and breathing. Any suggestions? I know she didn't put an overdose of the malachite in but, she changed too much water.

Hi dimramon, doing that big of a water change can stress out your fish, water temperature from the tap might have not matched the tanks water or ph was different from the tap. She also might have messed up the cycle in your tank. I would check for ammonia. As far as goldfish go the general rule for them is at least 10 gallons of water per fish, anything bigger than 3-4 inches there should be at least 15-30 gallons of water per fish. With 4 fish in a 29-gallon, that could be the cause of the fungus. The water quality might be poor because your tank sounds like it is overstocked. Goodluck
