My Spiney Eel (Macrognathus circumcinctus), Mr. Snuffleupagus, is on his last legs (so to speak.) It has been several months since I have seen him swim freely in the tank. He tends to bury himself in the sand and only swim when there is food in the water. Now he rarely does that even.
I've had him for over five years. Given his size at purchase, I'd guess he was at least two years old then.
So, is he sick, or dying of old age? I've upped the tank temp a tad, and added some salt, but he still seems old and listless. I added some melafix out of frustration, but all my fish seemed less than thrilled with this, so I H20-changed it out.
I guess I'm wondering if I've done something wrong, or has Snuffie lead a long and productive eel life and has just come to "the clearing at the end of the path."
Oh, all parameters you would normally ask me about at this point are fine. I've done all the usual detective work before posting.
