They're actually from Thailand. FS's use many names for these fish I've heard:

Hong Kong Pleco
Skate Pleco
Freshwater Skate
Butterfly Loach
Hillstream Loach
Hong Kong Devil (LOL)
Hong Kong Sucker
Borneo Pleco
Borneo Catfish

Sheesh!

That's not a true flounder, but a loach as you've stated. Hillstream loach seems to be the more common term in the U.S. They are a cold water fish that also require strong water flow. I've never had one, but they are interesting fish and come in some striking color/patterns.

I used to have an actual flounder when I was a kid, in my 20 gallon community tank. It lived for a while but didn't thrive and ended up dying within a year. Now I realize that it was a brackish fish, which was a factor in it's early demise. Flounders can also be difficult to feed.

I also had a fiddler crab setup, with a large sandy beach on one side and water on the other. I kept them in freshwater (mistake), and they died shortly after molting.

How long have you had your fiddlers? I'd like to try them again some day if I thought I could keep them alive. All reports I've read say that they need brackish water in order to live.

no man i only said they are in with my flounder. i know its not one. i have had my fiddlers for about 4 months. they are doing well. they eat shrimp pellets, but seem to prefer the live blackworms i feed my flounders.

Yeah saw the pics of the flounder... cool fish.

My buddy had four of them and they all died (an employee at the LFS he bought them at said they'd "do just fine" in FW, they lasted about three months...).

I'd like to have a brackish setup for them some day... maybe 2 or 3 flounders and 1 or two puffers. Sand substrate, ghost shrimp (feeders), maybe a crab of some type although that might cause compatability issues... (although I've proven with my current tank that compatability can be manufactured in some cases).
