It's not just for otos

Roan,

Nice pictures, which brings up a couple questions.

1) Allen wrenches for weights? One appears to be chrome and the other appears to be tool steel. Are you sure they don't leach harmful chemicals? Because I'm ignorant, I'm paranoid about putting anything metal other than stainless steel in my tank.

2) What have you added to the zucchini?

I tried many different veges for my Otos, Plecos and snails. 2 of 4 plecos ate the veges (blanched and non blanched), 6 of 8 otos ate, and all snails had fun. In defense to the two plecos that did not eat them, they are quite old (6+ years old - middle aged) and have had nothing but commercially prepared foods when I tried to feed them

All in all, veges are GREAT for anything that eats it. Especially for snails (so when they get eaten, they give veges nutirents to carnivores).

Those are some good pics reiverix and roan!!!

Actually, a lot of people use Allen keys to sink their veggies. I boiled them, so I'm not worried about surface contaminents. They don't stay in overnight, either, which is probably overkill, but I'm like you -- I worry about putting stuff like that in my tank. Everything else I tried either doesn't work or is a pita to get out again.

I just received my Screwcumber order from the UK. These are marine steel grade screw-in weights for sinking veggies. Will be using those from now on instead. Easier to put into the zucchini as well.

2) What have you added to the zucchini?
Hikari Carnivore sticks, which get eaten before the zucchini does :) Fish like clowns, plecos, cories and kuhliis don't get enough meat because the middle and top fish get all the good stuff, so I spike the veggies with shrimp or carnivore sticks. The loaches love them.

Missing from the picture are all my ghost shrimp, which are usually on the zucchini first, my kuhliis, which are under the back of the other zucchini and you can't see them.

You can tell I *just* threw the zucchini in -- the meat sticks haven't been touched yet -- and they are already starting to swarm over the veggie.

I throw mine in around 4pm and take it out the next morning around 9am. That way I know that the nocturnal dudes get lots.
