Breeding Snails

I have been interested in breeding snails for awhile now and have come across some money to do it. However, I have no idea how to. Can anyone help me on this? Like what size tank should I use or what kind of snails? Thank You.

I was always trying to find birth control for them!!

Depending on the type of snail, you really may not have to do anything at all. Just keep fish from eating them.

agree. i started with about 25 MTS a few months ago, now i must over hundreds!!! did not do anything to them, they eat whatever they find and they multiply. i like them, they clean my gravel pretty well.

What kind of snails are you interested in? Here is a link to some pics of my mystery snails. http://themightyqueenpixie.tripod.com/snails/ They are easy to breed and easy to control population wise. You need both a male and a female and the egg clutches are laid abouve the water...They are large, hard and easy to remove with a credit card. Mystery snails (pomacea bridgesii) will not eat live plants and grow to about the size of a ping pong ball...

Tank wise they dont require a lot...Figure on 2.5 gals of water per adult snail. They do require some sort of filtration and a heater as well as plenty of fresh water and veggies.The most important thing with snails is that you provide water with a high pH, kh and gh...A crushed coral substrate will do this. Baby snails require no special snail food, but should have good access at all times to fresh foods...

Snails.. i'd just throw a bunch in any tank, make sure they're fed.. no worries, in a while you'll notice an infestation :p

I would venture to say that malaysian trumpet snails will be more of a value than many others for the fact the they keep the gravel distured or aerated and only eat dead or dying plant material. They also have an ornamental exotic quality to them. Good luck with whatever your heart desires!~Angela
