What is the smallest type of Arowana that would be common to find in a lfs?

NONE haha...they all get to the same size, even there fry is big

asian arowanas and australians (jardinis and leichtardi) stay between ~26-30" max, they are the smallest species
If you want a smaller top dwelling fish the african butterfly fish is related to arowanas and are pretty cool fish

Supposedly Jardinis don't really grow more than 18-19" in aquaria. But it should be noted they require more room to turn than a silver since they aren't as flexible.

19" is definitely on the small side for a jardini. I've seen tons past the 20" mark, and there are much bigger ones out there.

Supposedly Jardinis don't really grow more than 18-19" in aquaria.I see no reason why aquarium fish should not grow to the same size as their wild cousins, given the right size tank.
