I am using Maracide now...They changed their formula from what it used to be and the stuff is expensive..It cost $14.00 to treat just a 55 gallon tank one time....What have you used?

I also have Rid Ich on hand..How is that?

i always catch it early, so all i do is keep the stress levels on the fish down and turn up the temp and add some salt. fish are always still eating and it dissapeers in a few days.

I have aquarium salt..The thing about it, it that there is no solid information on how much to put in a tank daily..Is this right?

1. Remove valued live plants.

2. Raise temperature to 80 degrees, tops.

3. Increase aeration!

4. Add one teaspoon of salt per gallon.

5. Twelve hours later, add another one teaspoon of salt per gallon.

6. Twelve hours later, add another one teaspoon of salt per gallon.

7. Within 48-60 hours of the second salt dose at 80 degrees, the Ich will be gone.

8. Leave salt in the water for another 3-5 days unless you're worried about your live plants.

9. Remove salt via partial water changes. (30-40% at a time if desired).

Rid-Ich was very effective on my outbreak.

I was very panicky about it because I had just gotten done planting the heck out of my tank and I haven't lost a fish in years. Just such a perfect little ecosystem I had until I saw those infernal little pests on my gourami.

I was afraid to use salt because of the plants.

Afraid to use medication because of shrimp and loaches.

Kordon promised that their Rid-Ich was safe for sensitive fish and that it would work. I shook my head in disbelief but figured I'd try anything. Something about the salt just didn't sit right.

Within a week of having the temp in the mid 80s and treating with a regular dose of Rid-Ich, everything seemed just fine. No ich in sight, no stress on any residents at all.

I continued treatments for almost a week after seeing no more ich, and here I am another week later with healthy fish and a temperature of 78. It's as if ich never even happened.

Long story short, rid ich worked for me. But there are so many strains of ich that it's anyone's guess if it would work for another case altogether. Either way, I recommend it heartily.

I read his instructions for salt treatment...It is too complicated or he made the instructions really hard to understand..Either way, you would have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what he is saying...
This is the first time anyone's ever posted that the instructions were hard to follow. I doubt many of use are scientists, let alone rocket scientists.

What part do you have problems understanding?

Short term use of salt (NaCl) won't hurt plants in the levels needed to treat ich. And it won't hurt sensitove fish either. Short term being 3 weeks or so. The instructions in that article are pretty easy to follow.

Add appropriate amount of salt, increase heat, replace only salt removed during water changes, when treatment is done remove salt through normal water changes.

These instructions for salting ich are adequete and will cure ich. How do I know, because everytime I used these instructions, I have had a 100% cure rate for ich. Dr. Erik Johnson is the author of those instructions and he is a world renowned fish veterinarion specializing in Koi and Goldfish.
