I posted this in the bottom dweller section but haven't gotten a response. I figured more people would see it here.

Has anyone tried keeping kuhli loaches in a Flourite tank? I want to get some for mine but not sure if this is an ok substrate for them. There's also alot of Profile/Schultz in the tank, which is similar to Flourite.

I'm guessing they won't be able to dig in it as easily as sand but it's a big tank with lots of hiding places and no other bottom fish really.

I would think they would be fine. I've seen kuhlis in tanks where the substrate is too sharp or heavy to dig and they just go under decorations when they want to hide.

You could also make a few sand pockets here and there in the substrate (looks nice too if you do it right) so they can burrow if they want...

I have kuhlis in my Flourite tank with tons of hiding spots, but they really *do* need to be able to dig a hole. It's just their nature. They try to dig holes in the Flourite all the time, but it isn't easy for them. They like to dig under things like rocks and wood.

I intend on putting sand under the rocks and wood in one of my new tanks and moving them into it.

Thanks for the input graphicdesign_r and Roan Art. I think I'm going to try them. There are a few pieces of driftwood in the tank with plants growing on them so there should be a good amount of hiding places.

The sand area idea is interesting too, I'm gonna think about that.
