I bought some anacharis from my local LFS and its getting really tall. Just wondering if you can cut anacharis and plant the cut piece in substrate?

Also, I have bunch of small watersprite floating and was wondering what is the best way to plant them in gravel substrate?

I cut my anacharis weekly and put a lead weight at the bottom to keep it from floating.

to cause an imbalance I think you'd have to fill the tank about 25% full of lead. Regular water changes and filtering remove any trace lead. ...although I'm not sure such a small piece even leaves a trace.

I cut and replant 2-3 weekly my anacharis. I dont use any weights, just place it in the gravel or wrap around driftwood. Nothing special.

I learned that lead weights (if not the correct ones) can leach lead into your water thus making is poisonous. But I have never confirmed it because I never use them.

So of them do contain lead. Lee's Lead Plant Weights have been taken off the market because they do and they've recommended that if you have them in your tank, to remove them.

Here's the email I got from them that I posted in another lead thread:

I have tried those plastic weights (AquariumPlants.com) that Daveedka is referring to in that thread and they work great for any plant, even bulbs.

Shoot.

Thanks for the info. I definitely use Lee's that I bought last year. ...probably fall back on Rock with String until my anacharis root themselves.

ROFL! Rock with String is going to go down in AC History :)

Hey, I was using the darn things too! It IS possible that there is no harm being done if you are using only a couple here and there. I'm sure they have to take precautions in case there could be a viable lawsuit somewhere and that's why they told me to remove them.

However, what concerns me is that stores are still selling them. Why haven't they been recalled or something? I find that strange.
