I've had panda cories for a while now, and my school's complement has dwindled to 2 aging but healthy pandas. I'm looking to replenish their numbers, but to my surprise I haven't been able to find them anywhere for the past month. Not at any LFS in my area (NYC) or from online vendors. My LFS of choice (New World Aquarium for those of you around here) tells me to call back each week. So each week I do, and each week they say, "Sorry, no pandas this week."

Since I've never had any trouble finding pandas before -- and I seem to recall I previously got them in summertime -- I'm guessing that they're seasonally available.

My question is, does anyone know when I should expect to see pandas back in stores? I've had a QT tank set up for about a month now, and I might as well break it down if it's going to be a long while before I can get pandas.

Thanks in advance for any insight you might have.

Hi
If u live in the near Grand street (Qtrain station) u can go by mott street and they should have some small pandas. i find that they sell them at a price lower then most stores in brooklyn. The more u buy the bigger the disscount u get. :)

I'm guessing you're talking about Win Tropical Aquariums on Mott St. (Did a Google search to get the number/address.) I hadn't tried them, so I just gave them a call. Here's how the conversation went:

Woman: WIN TROPICAL!
Me: Hi, I'm calling to see if you have any panda cories in stock?
Woman: CHRIS?
Me: Panda cories?
Woman: ...PISCES?
[long pause]
Me: Do you have panda. Cory. Catfish?
Woman: OHHHHHHHHHHH! WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING LIKE THAT!
Me: OK, do you--
Woman: [click]

Hahaha -- who knows if she actually understood me in the end. Have you seen panda cories there recently? If so, I'll swing by in person to check it out for myself and save my eardrums another beating. Thanks for the tip, regardless!

Only if

Only if you lived in Houston, There's this place aqua world - i think? but i went in a least twice a week looking for a hillstream loach, but they had like hundred minature pandas. well sorry

Hey, it's good to know they're out there somewhere.

I ended up snapping up a group of 5 on Aquabid, so the story has a happy ending. Thanks for your replies!
