i just sprung a leak question: should i buy new tank or fix the leak? Small town Wal-Mart does not have size needed. Not sure if has silicon. Monday holiday. Same story. New at this but not dumb. Guess just keep fish happy
till I figure out what I really want to do. Anyway just came across this site.
Thought there might be some real prople out there.

If the tank is quite old, it is better to probably buy a new tank, but first it the leak is from silicone then it can be re sealed, with no probs. but if the glass is cracked IMO get a new tank.
I think there are a number of factors to consider.... i.e. where is the leak? do you have somewhere else to keep the fish while you repair the tank? how big of a tank are we talking?
Is it the silicone or a crack in the glass? if it's silicone you can just have (2-5 days)... if it's a crack you can just have a new piece of glass installed over the broken one - this only makes sense if the crack is on the bottom or the back - both places where it is easy to hide.
I have a 20 gallon... broke the bottom and had a new piece siliconed over top. Have had that thing running for 6ish years now since it happend and never had a problem.

Thanks for the info Decz. I have a 40g breeder with the bottom glass cracked. I think I will try this and see how it goes.

you can pick Silicone up at walmart in the automotive section. That is where they keep it at mine.
